Celebrate Pop Culture in Beijing and Shanghai --Time and locations of ReedPOP 2016 announced!

September 10, 2015

ReedPOP releases its next moves in China at a press conference in Beijing on September10th. It is officially confirmed that there will be two Comic Conventions in China for the year of 2016, in both Beijing and Shanghai. The ReedPOP team also reviewed the great numbers of the Shanghai Comic Convention (‘SHCC’) that took place in May. Edwin Tan, COO of Reed Exhibitions Greater China, Lance Fensterman, founder of New York Comic Convention (‘NYCC’) and Senior Global Vice President at ReedPOP, Lanny Zhang, Vice President of Reed Exhibitions Greater China, along with Mary Franklin, ReedPOP Senior Event Director, attended the press conference and shared the exciting news with comic fans.

The last SHCC was the first comic convention ReedPOP brought to Chinese comic fans. It remained a popular topic among fans till today. At the convention, more than 20 creator guests, entertainment guests and Cosplay artists from home and abroad flew to Shanghai to interact with fans, signing off their works and creating fun photo moments. The creative artists also drew on site and engaged in friendly conversations. All activities stirred up rounds of posts and re-tweets about the convention. The convention featured 41 exhibitors who satisfied the fans’ appetite for copyrighted comic books, toys, models, Garage Kits and other related products.

SHCC was the first interaction between ReedPOP and Chinese comic fans and the first step of building the connection. Although this was the China debut for ReedPOP, well-arranged schedules with variety of activities and intimate interaction with guests attracted 14,114 fans from Shanghai and other places in China and overseas to the convention. The success proved and confirmed ReedPOP’s confidence to pursuit their vision of bringing the best pop culture contents mostly welcomed by local comic fans. As Chinese fans expect more ReedPOP cons to come, the team themselves are also excited about the future.

To respond to Chinese fans’ desire for professional comic conventions and pop culture, ReedPOP will host Beijing Comic Convention (‘BJCC’) in the New China International Exhibition Center in June and later reenact the excitement of the first SHCC by hosting the second SHCC in Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Center of International Sourcing on the beautiful Suzhou River bank in November. The two conventions will include more activities than SHCC 2015. Designed around guests, interactive activities, and show floor, conventions in 2016 will allow fans to interact face-to-face with guests or join the Cosplay competition or showcase their work at the Artist Alley. Fans will also find all of their favorite comic books, toy collections, games and other related products at the shows.

BJCC and SHCC are the newer members among all comic conventions that ReedPOP organizes globally. The earliest convention in the ReedPOP family, NYCC, came into being in 2006. Within a decade, it has grown to be the most admired and desired comic-con on the east coast of America. Its audience size has out-grown that of San Diego Comic Con. NYCC is now an annual weeklong comic carnival spread out in the entire New York City. This year’s NYCC gathered stars as usual. Besides movie stars and comic masters, the convention also featured Japanese cartoonist and creator of Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto who will meet and interact with comic fans. It’s ReedPOP’s long-term goal to bring creators of fans’ favorite comics regardless of their nationality.

When talking about SHCC and conventions in 2016, Lance Fensterman said, “SHCC is a huge driving force. It shows us the demand for an event of more variety in terms of content and interaction. We will work harder in 2016 to meet the interests and demands of all fans and provide more exhilarating experience for our Chinese fan base.”  Lanny Zhang also said, “The passion we felt from SHCC 2015 is the real recognition of our hard work. It also reminds us of our responsibilities and duties to bring authentic international comic conventions to Chinese comic fans. We hope to create a market momentum and continuous charm for Chinese fans through our annual, high quality conventions. I believe BJCC 2016 will be a refreshing surprise.”

More previews and sneak peeks about the comic conventions will be available after the press conference. For more information and to stay up-to-date please refer to the official Weibo account of ReedPOP @励德漫展, WeChat account RXChinaComicCon and the official website: www.comiccon.com.cn
